I came back from the Web 2.0 Summit jazzed with the possibilities for Amazon.com’s EC2 computing cloud. It took about 30 seconds before I started thinking about other places those same WSDL’s could be exposed.
Until yesterday I’d been carrying around a MacBook with no idea that it contained one of the potential building blocks for this idea; XGRID. XGRID seems pretty oriented toward batch job image processing work but I wonder how difficult it would be to run XEN as a job under it and then front its dispatcher with an OSS implementation of Amazon’s WSDL’s. Add a micropayment scheme on top of that and we’re off to the races…
This may not offer a ton of benefit from just starting from scratch, except for the fact that it already has secure dispatching built in and comes pre-installed to every Mac.
